The province’s Lakeland region is a hidden gem for lovers of summer on the shores
Great news! Since the dinosaurs went extinct, Alberta's crystal clear lakes and sandy beaches are free for the enjoying. That means lake swimming and boating are perfect ways to indulge in Alberta’s hot summer days.
• Good to know: Alberta lakes come in every shade from pale blue to milky turquoise. Many were left behind by retreating glaciers, but lake-loving humans have dug great urban ones too.
• Boat curious: Paddle as much or as little as you want. Sign up for a boat tour surrounded by mountains or rent a two-person canoe for the voyageur experience.
• How to swim: Gentle, shallow and warm. No, not the apres-ski hot tub. That's central Alberta's prairie lakes.

From the water, wildlife lovers can spot bald eagles, herons, pelicans, song birds, deer and the occasional coyote along the shore. Tours begin from Newcastle Park, but shuttle service to designated pick-up and drop-off points is also available. More of a landlubber? Electric bikes are also available to rent.
