Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park Provincial Parks

Cypress Hill is no gentle slope. It’s the highest spot in Canada east of the Rocky Mountains. This Interprovincial Park (politely shared with neighbouring Saskatchewan) is home to moose, elk, bobcats and a variety of deer. Year-round outdoor activities make it a popular destination whether the hill is covered in snow or sunshine. ● Do this: Cypress is winter at the next level. Start with the wild bends of the natural luge track, and master a winter survival course too. You know, just in case. ● Stay a while: After you set up camp near the beach, spend the day stand-up paddleboarding. Rentals are available in the town of Elkwater.

St. Margaret's Church Historic Site

Elkwater, Alberta

St. Margaret's Church was built in 1907 and is currently the oldest church building still in use, south and east of Medicine Hat. In the early 1940's the church was used a schoolhouse, and in 1992 it received an extensive restoration. While the church was originally built as Church of England (Anglican/Episcopalian), it is now operated on a non-denominational basis, administered by a non-profit society. The small church, which seats 32, is a living memorial to all those who helped settle the area. The church is kept open year-round and attracts nearly 1,600 visitors each year from around the world. Interdenominational services are offered on occasion.
