Join artist Lan “Florence” Yee for the inaugural session of the 2025 Artist Workshop series, a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of text and textile imagery through hand embroidery. This engaging workshop examines how seemingly mundane images and words, omnipresent in daily life through signage, media, and templates, hold deeply affective meanings beneath their neutral veneer. Text and textile imagery intersect as powerful tools for artistic expression, mutually influencing and enriching one another. Participants are encouraged to bring text (e.g., words, notes, lists, signs, or conversations lingering in your mind) and fabrics with personal significance or unexplored meaning (e.g., a handkerchief, t-shirt, or patterned cloth). Lan will guide attendees through creative prompts designed to connect text and textile, culminating in their integration using two basic hand-embroidery techniques: the satin stitch and the brick stitch. Materials such as embroidery hoops, markers, and thread will be provided. Suitable for all skill levels, this workshop fosters exploration and creativity.
