Fickle Lake Provincial Recreation Area

Fickle Lake Provincial Recreation Area, located in Yellowhead County in Alberta’s Northern Rockies, offers fishing, wildlife viewing and peaceful lakeside escapes. Anglers can cast for northern pike, lake whitefish, walleye and perch, while bird lovers watch for birds of prey and migratory waterfowl along the shoreline. An interpretive trail leads from the beach to the remnants of Elkoff’s trapper’s cabin, with a round-trip walk of about 1 hour that adds a sense of history to the visit. The road into Fickle Lake and the parking lot are maintained in winter, making it a quiet cold-season getaway for spotting bears, moose, deer and beavers in their natural habitat.
