Edmonton River Valley La Tayr-Geo Discovery Tour

Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of the Edmonton River Valley, where the past intertwines with the present. Delve into the hidden gems of river valley, including its boreal forest that possesses medicinal plants that are still being used by local First Nations and Métis people. To begin in a good way, your geo-experience will start with an opening circle and a later tobacco offering. Your Indigenous cultural journey continues into Edmonton’s famous înîw (I am of the Earth in nêhiyawêwin /Cree)/River Lot 11/Indigenous Art Park located on a historic Métis river lot once inhabited by Joseph Macdonald and his family for over three decades during and after the fur trade era. This historical site boasts a legacy that predates the very foundation of Edmonton itself! Join Keith Diakiw, a proud Métis guide, as he shares some traditional knowledge of the medicines hiding in plain sight, as well as Indigenous cultural insights of the diverse art installations inspired from the land.
