Flights | Opening Reception

Please join BlueRock Gallery for the opening of Flights, new works in acrylic by Verna Vogel, on Saturday. Artist Statement:I begin my paintings with blind drawing, a discipline which relies on my body's spatial sensibility to create a balance of forms. In the resulting stable framework, I can play freely with colour, open-eyed. This way of working connects to a deep and vital, joyful intelligence which is rarely accessible through sight and conscious mind alone. In this body of work, heightened visual textures and patterning create a flattened surface complexity. This intrigues me. What do they show, what do they conceal? As the paintings emerged, many thoughts and feelings about the worlds we inhabit played through my mind and heart.
