James-Wilson Campground

Tucked between the James River and Wilson Creek in Kananaskis, the James‑Wilson Provincial Recreation Area offers a rustic forest escape along Forestry Trunk Road west of Sundre. With around 17 spacious, unserviced sites, it's a first‑come, first‑served campground open year‑round. Enjoy front‑country hiking, fishing, geocaching, and OHV (off‑highway vehicle) use on established roadways—perfect for outdoor adventurers. Amenities are vault toilets, fire pits, a hand‑pump water supply (bring your own drinking water), and no garbage bins—campers must pack out their waste. Firewood isn’t provided, helping protect local forests. This quiet, volunteer‑maintained site is ideal for self‑reliant campers seeking natural charm and peaceful surroundings.
