Elk Creek Campground

Elk Creek Campground, nestled along the Clearwater River about 65 km southwest of Rocky Mountain House on Forestry Trunk Road (Hwy. 734), is a small, rustic year-round destination. Maintained by volunteers from the Friends of the Eastern Slopes Association, it offers 13 unserviced, first-come, first-served campsites—ideal for anglers, hikers, equestrian explorers, and OHV users (on designated roadways at 15 km/h max). Essentials include firepits, vault toilets, and a hand-pump water source; visitors must bring their own toilet paper, hand sanitizer, drinking water, and pack out all garbage. Firewood isn’t provided—though collecting deadfall is prohibited—so plan accordingly. Campers are also advised to secure food and attractants in hard-sided containers or vehicles to protect against wildlife. Quiet, offbeat, and volunteer-supported, Elk Creek offers a back-to-basics wilderness experience.
