Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park

Dry Island Buffalo Jump is a little-known secret gem in the Alberta Parks system. The park is located near Trochu and offers breathtaking scenic views of the Red Deer River Valley. The park is day-use only, but picnic sites with firepits are available. There’s also a boat launch that gives paddlers easy access to the river. Visitors can hike trails that wind through coulees and native grasslands. The area is also popular with bird watchers as it boasts over 150 different species of birds, from warblers to turkey vultures. Those who want to stay in the area will find two nearby campgrounds. Between them, the campgrounds have 65 unserviced sites that let campers base themselves in the area for extended stays. Both are open from late May to mid-October and operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
