Directly across from the Athabasca Glacier, is the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre, where you can book a tour on an Ice Explorer snow coach that will take you right up onto the glacier. Located at the juncture of Banff and Jasper National Parks, the centre offers interpretive exhibits, a restaurant and cafeteria, an extensive patio, and a gift shop, as well as scenic walks and self-guided trails. On the top floor is a boutique hotel, offering front-row seating for viewing the glacier, not to mention superb stargazing. It is also the departure point for tours to the nearby Glacier Skywalk.
