Elk River Campground

Set just 65 km southwest of Rocky Mountain House along Forestry Trunk Road, Elk Creek Campground lies in the peaceful surroundings of the Elk Creek Provincial Recreation Area beside the Clearwater River. This small, year-round campground features 13 unserviced, first‑come, first‑served sites maintained by the Friends of the Eastern Slopes Association—a volunteer-driven non‑profit whose support through membership greatly helps in preserving this natural retreat. Rustic in character, the campground offers firepits, vault toilets, and a hand‑pump water source, although the safety of drinking water can't be guaranteed, so bringing your own is wise. There are no garbage bins provided—visitors must pack out all their refuse and to protect local wildlife, all food and scent-attractants should be securely stored when unattended. Whether you’re here to fish, hike, ride horseback, or explore nature on an OHV, Elk Creek offers a serene base for outdoor adventurers seeking a quiet forest.
