Created in 1983 by the construction of the Dickson Dam on the Red Deer River, Glennifer Reservoir (also called Glennifer Lake) stretches 7 km (4 mi) by 2 km (1.2 mi) in Central Alberta. It’s part of the Glennifer Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area, a scenic area that’s a popular destination for outdoor activities. Dickson Point Campground offers a comfortable stay near the water, with large, open sites well suited to RVs. It’s the perfect base for hiking, mountain biking, swimming or relaxing on the shore, and the lake is open for sailing, waterskiing, sailboarding and paddling. An anglers paradise, Glennifer Reservoir has pike, walleye, brown trout and rainbow trout, and a trout pond at Dickson Point that becomes an ice fishing spot in winter. The Glennifer Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area is about 132 km (82 mi) north of Calgary and 23 km (14 mi) west of Innisfail.
