World’s Largest Blue Heron (Barrhead), located in Barrhead’s town centre, offers travellers a quirky roadside stop and photo-worthy local landmark. The towering blue heron statue stands at the corner of 50 Street and 49 Street, beside the community gazebo that marks the heart of town. Miniature versions of the bird decorate nearby street posts, making the area a fun place to wander and spot local details. The elegant, long-legged heron is also the official mascot of Barrhead, reflecting its importance in local lore and everyday life. Known as Aaron the Blue Heron, the statue was created in 1984 by artist Trygve Seland. Built from rebar, wire mesh and concrete, the bird rises 8 feet (2.4 metres) high on a 4-foot (1.2-metre) pedestal, giving visitors an impressive close-up view and a memorable photo opportunity.
