Trans Canada Trail
Trans Canada Trail, located near Reesor Lake Campground in Elkwater, offers a moderately strenuous plateau hike with sweeping prairie and coulee views. The southeast Alberta section of this trail starts at the Reesor Lake Campground causeway parking lot and links Reesor Viewpoint with Spruce Coulee Campground. Hikers climb steadily to the top of the plateau, rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside along the way and from the high point. From the plateau, the route follows an abandoned road before turning onto open grassland toward Reesor Viewpoint. Continuing north, the trail winds through a changing mix of forest and grassland before emerging at Spruce Coulee Reservoir, giving travellers a varied landscape in a single outing.
