Tawayik Lake Trail
Tawayik Lake Trail in Ardrossan, Alberta, offers a quiet out-and-back hike where travellers can explore classic aspen parkland scenery. Tawayik is the Cree word for halfway, and Tawayik Lake was traditionally a resting area about halfway between hunting camps in the Beaver Hills and Fort Edmonton. Today, hikers follow the same route in and out, as the narrows between Tawayik Lake and Little Tawayik Lake are impassable in summer. Along the narrows, visitors walk through open meadows and small stands of aspen that showcase the region’s aspen parkland landscape. The gentle terrain and peaceful setting make this trail a reflective place to connect with nature and the area’s history.
