Tawayik is the Cree word for halfway. Tawayik Lake was a resting area about halfway between hunting camps in the Beaver Hills and Fort Edmonton. The narrows between Tawayik Lake and Little Tawayik Lake are impassable in summer and hikers must return along the same route they arrived on. The narrows area contains meadows and small stands of aspen - a classic aspen parkland.
