Sunset Pass

Sunset Pass, located near Norman Lake in the Canadian Rockies, offers a challenging forest hike to a high meadow with sweeping mountain views. Hikers climb steadily through thick forest before emerging into an expansive alpine meadow atop the pass, where open skies and rugged peaks frame the horizon. To the west, some of the largest mountains in the park rise dramatically, while to the east the landscape drops into the remote White Goat Wilderness Area, adding a sense of true backcountry escape. The Sunset Pass route is rated difficult and follows a 16.1 kilometre out-and-back trail that is moderately trafficked and features a waterfall along the way, rewarding effort with both scenic viewpoints and a refreshing cascade.
