Squirt is the sweetest smelling—and sweetest smiling—skunk you’ll ever meet. The little guy is the mascot of Beiseker, a village that is 70 km (45 mi) northeast of Calgary. We say “little guy,” but the Squirt statue in the Beiseker campground stands 4 m (13 ft) tall. That campground is the perfect base for exploring the Beiseker area. It’s open from May to October and has serviced and unserviced sites and showers and a camp kitchen. The campground is close to Beiseker’s community centre, playgrounds, skatepark and ball diamonds. The Beiseker Station Museum is also worth a visit. It’s located in the CPR station at the west end of Main Street and preserves the history of the early settlers in the area. If you want to take a souvenir home, stores in town sell Squirt the Skunk pins, key chains, T-shirts, hats and postcards.
