Qiviut Fibre Mill Tour

Qiviut Inc. is a 100% Inuit-owned qiviut fibre mill dedicated to producing high-quality yarn, spun fibre, knitted goods, and reusable Nuna Heat hand warmers made from the warm undercoat of Arctic muskoxen. Owner Tanis Simpson, originally from Sachs Harbour, NWT, sustainably sources muskox hides from the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. Each hide is carefully combed by hand before the fibre is processed through vintage mill machines. Visitors can take a 60-minute guided tour led by an experienced mill worker, exploring the full process—from combing one of the world’s rarest fibres (a hands-on experience guests can try) to washing, carding, pin-drafting, spinning, dyeing, and skeining the mill’s signature yarn blends. The mill also features a small storefront, Arctic Indulgence, offering Inuit-made crafts and locally crafted goods. Guests leave with a deeper appreciation for this remarkable fibre—and a small sample of qiviut to take home.
