The Plamondon and District Museum Society operates a bilingual museum in the Hamlet of Plamondon in Lac La Biche County. The mission is to preserve the history and story of the district through displays and exposition. They collect and display artifacts of the Plamondon District and provide information to community organizations and museum visitors. They have an extensive French and Metis genealogy collection. In 2024, the Plamondon and District Museum received the Recognized Museum designation from the Alberta Museums Association (AMA). This is an exciting time for the Plamondon Museum because earning this designation demonstrates that it is committed to maintaining standards of professional practice and to ensuring that it plays a strong and important role within the community of Plamondon. They voluntarily participated in the Recognized Museum Program (RMP) offered by the AMA, which involved providing evidence to a panel of museum professionals that demonstrated that the institution meets the AMA’s Definition of a Museum and operates according to best practice standards in the core areas of museum practice. Visitors to the Plamondon Museum can now look for the easily recognizable Recognized Museum logo, which identifies the institutions in the province that offer a quality museum experience.
