McHugh Bluff Park

McHugh Bluff Park in Calgary is a natural hillside park along the Bow River offering scenic urban views and peaceful walking trails. The bluff stretches along the northern bank of the Bow River as it passes through the centre of the city, creating a steep, natural barrier above the water. Named after early homesteader and entrepreneur Felix McHugh, the area reflects a long local history tied to Calgary’s early growth. In 2004, the city began restoring and developing the bluff into a natural park, preserving its rugged slope while adding accessible pathways. Despite its central location, the steep grade has limited intensive human use, helping maintain a quiet, natural feel. Today, commuters, joggers and dog walkers regularly follow the lateral pathways and trails that wind along the hillside.
