It’s a true family affair at Grey Owl. Walter and Arleen Schwengler, along with their son Caleb, work tirelessly on their 53-acre farm at the foot of the picturesque Southern Alberta Foothills. They are a family-owned and operated meadery that began with a dream of producing world-class mead with a distinct local flavour. After years of farming, they decided to utilize the rich natural resources around them. Through determination, they received their cottage winery license in 2015. Grey Owl crafts traditional and innovative meads, including Bochet, made with caramelized and raw honey from a 1393 French recipe, and Medieval, infused with beeswax and medieval spices. Located on Hwy 22 (the historic Cowboy Trail) near Buck Lake, Grey Owl offers stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. Visitors can relax in the tasting room, enjoying breathtaking scenery while savouring their exceptional meads and ciders.
