Freeman River Campground

Freeman River Provincial Recreation Area, nestled about 10 km northwest of Whitecourt and roughly 16 km south of Swan Hills, offers a small yet charming campground ideal for both tents and RVs. Operating from June 1 to October 1, its ten unserviced campsites are available on a first‑come, first‑served basis at just $20 per night. Visitors should arrive prepared: while firepits and vault toilets are provided, there is no potable water—regulations strictly limit pumpkin‑water pump use to fire suppression only. What truly sets this campground apart is its direct access to the pristine Freeman River and nearby off‑highway vehicle (OHV) trail systems, making it a great base for fishing, riverside exploration, and motorized trail adventures. With minimal infrastructure and tranquil natural surroundings, Freeman River PRA delivers a rustic and quiet escape in central Alberta's foothills.
