Fort Heritage Precinct
Located in Fort Saskatchewan’s downtown core along the scenic banks of the North Saskatchewan River, the Fort Heritage Precinct invites visitors to step into the city’s rich past. The site highlights three key eras: the 1875 North West Mounted Police (NWMP) Fort, representing the community’s earliest history; a historical village and the 1905 Canadian Northern Railway Station showcasing early settler life; and the 1937 Warden’s Residence, which explores Alberta’s Provincial Gaol history and now serves as the Visitor Information Centre. Guided tours are offered throughout the year, allowing guests to travel through time. Explore the NWMP Fort and imagine life as a constable surveying the land from the bastion, then move forward to the village to experience a 1902 schoolhouse, early settler homes, a 1920s doctor’s residence, and the 1909 Courthouse.
