Famous 5 Centre of Canadian Women

Famous 5 Centre of Canadian Women, located in Calgary’s Heritage Park Historical Village, offers an inspiring look at trailblazing Canadian women’s history. Inside this replica of Nellie McClung’s home, visitors discover the stories of the Famous 5 group of Albertan women and their fight for legal recognition. Exhibits highlight Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby, Louise McKinney, Henrietta Muir Edwards, and Emily Murphy, who successfully petitioned for women to be considered “persons” under the British North America Act in 1929. The centre also shares stories of other influential women in Canadian history, helping travellers connect past struggles for equality with the rights enjoyed today.
