Your winter geo-adventure begins at the Moss Lake Trailhead, located within Elk Island National Park. This region, shaped by the last glaciation, features rolling hills that create an ideal habitat for beavers. As you snowshoe through a pristine boreal forest, you’ll experience a winter wonderland while observing wildlife in its natural habitat. The trail stretches for approximately 5 kilometres, with a journey time of 2.5 to 3 hours. It is available on weekends between 1300 and 1600 hours. Along the way, you will traverse a mixed boreal forest, offering fantastic opportunities for wildlife viewing. Look out for squirrels, beavers, deer, elk, plains bison, and woodpeckers. Your adventure concludes with an Indigenous sharing circle around a homefire, where you can warm up and enjoy some traditional tea. The trailhead is accessible from the Elk Island Parkway, and free parking is available at Moss Lake.
