Established in 1976, the EID Historical Park was started by a group of residents and farmers who wanted to preserve the history of the settlers who came to the Scandia area. The park is situated on 17 acres, on the old CPR right of way. The Scandia Pool Elevator, built-in 1927, was the first elevator in Alberta to be declared a historic resource. The attached office still has original paperwork, charts, and scale tickets. Nearby are the original Bow Slope Shipping Yards, also a Provincial Historic Resource, where thousands of cattle, sheep, and pigs were weighed and shipped off. This massive historical collection shows how the region was created, and what currently makes it the largest irrigated district in Alberta.
