Dawson Equestrian Campground

Dawson Equestrian Campground, nestled within the scenic Dawson Provincial Recreation Area, lies approximately 51 km east of Canmore via Highways 1 and 40, then a further 11 km east on Highway 68, plus a short trek south along Powderface Trail. This year-round facility caters specifically to equestrians, offering a mix of drive-up sites suitable for RVs and walk-in tenting spots, complete with essential amenities like hitching rails, loading ramps, firepits, vaulted toilets, and a water pump—though packing your own drinking water is advised. With just five unserviced campsites, availability follows a first-come, first-serve model, and reservations aren’t accepted. The nightly fee is $38, which includes space for two horses; any additional horse carries a charge of $7 per night. If you’re an Albertan senior, you may also qualify for a camping fee discount on reservations made for May 1, 2025, and beyond. This is a true backcountry equestrian haven—ideal if you’re traveling with horses.
