For the most current information on trail closures and advisories, please visit the Alberta Parks website. Note: There is a seasonal closure from May 1 to June 29 each year to allow the trail to dry out. Chester Lake Trail is a popular hike that winds through forest and alpine meadows before arriving at a stunning jade-green lake beneath Mount Chester. The scenery is especially breathtaking in autumn, when the larch trees turn golden and the valley comes alive with colour. In the summer months, biking is permitted only on the first 2 km, which follows an old logging road. After that point, bikes must be turned around to preserve the trail. In winter, Chester Lake becomes a favourite destination for snowshoers. To manage high usage, a separate snowshoe trail—about 2 km shorter than the summer route—is designated for snowshoers. Distance (Summer): 9.2 km / 5.75 mi / Return Elevation (Sumer): 300 m / 1,000 ft
