Beaver Pond Trail
Beaver Pond Trail offers visitors a glimpse into an important chapter of the park’s history. In the 1940s, park staff successfully reintroduced beavers after trapping had completely eliminated them from the area by the mid-1800s. Near the trailhead, guests can spot clear signs of past beaver activity, including old lodges now overgrown with vegetation and long abandoned. These quiet reminders of the beavers’ return add a unique sense of discovery to the walk. The trail winds through open aspen forest and peaceful sedge meadows, creating an ideal environment for wildlife viewing. In summer, the area is alive with bird activity, making it a great spot for bird watchers. During winter, the open meadows offer excellent opportunities to observe large mammals grazing in the snowy landscape. With its blend of history, nature, and wildlife, Beaver Pond Trail provides a rewarding and scenic experience year-round.
