Athabasca Landing Trail in Athabasca County’s Lakelands region offers a historic overland route that rewards travellers with long-distance trail adventure. This official section of the Trans Canada Trail marks the start of its only overland route into Canada’s northern territories, giving hikers, cyclists and other users a rare sense of connection across the country. The route follows the historic Athabasca Landing corridor, inviting visitors to imagine the journeys that once linked river and land travel. The trail is designed as a mixed-use experience and will eventually connect with other major routes, including the Peace River Trail and Alberta’s Iron Horse Trail. These future links will create extended options for both motorized and non-motorized users, opening up multi-day explorations through Alberta’s Lakelands and beyond.
