Airdrie Airpark was built in the early 1940s as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP) alongside other Alberta facilities training aircrews for the war effort. After its military use, it became a recreational airfield operated by a local aviation family before being acquired by Airdrie Airpark Ltd. The Airpark has been managed and funded by its owners since December 1997 and has operated continuously for over 70 years. The current owners have invested in aeronautical infrastructure, positioning the facility for extensive development. Runway 12-30 (5000′ x 100′ asphalt) was completed in 2002, replacing the original 3-runway layout. It meets Transport Canada TP312 regulatory standards (classification 3C) and was built to a ‘Certified’ airport designation, for which Airdrie Airpark intends to apply.
