Visual Arts Open Lecture Series: Jerry Ropson

Join Banff Centre for an afternoon talk with Canadian artist Jerry Ropson. Ropson’s artistic practice delves into themes of rural life, material reuse, and site-specificity, transforming personal narratives into shared allegories. His work layers objects and spaces with ritual and resonance. In this talk, he explores the tension between vulnerability and preservation, revealing how chance, intuition, and storytelling influence his installations and creative process. Ropson is a 2025 faculty member for the Early Career Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR) program—a transformative five-week residency offering mentorship, critical feedback, and studio time to emerging visual artists and curators. This event is part of the Visual Arts Open Lecture Series, which features talks by leading Canadian and international artists, curators, and academics. Visual Arts is supported by the Gail and Stephen A. Jarislowsky Outstanding Artist Program.
