Open Farm Days at Shirley's Greenhouse in Carstairs offers pesticide-free greenhouse and field vegetables so guests can taste produce fresh from the source. Visitors can explore the 40,000 sq ft greenhouse east of Carstairs and see two types of cucumbers, eight types of tomatoes, hot peppers, bell peppers, butter lettuce and kale growing side by side. The experience highlights how vegetables are grown without synthetic pesticides, with produce safe enough that the owners’ children can snack straight from the vines. Shirley’s Greenhouse also cultivates 12 acres of field vegetables, giving guests a look at both greenhouse and outdoor production.
