LitFest Alberta transforms Edmonton each October into a vibrant celebration of nonfiction storytelling. As Canada’s first and only festival dedicated entirely to true stories, it brings authors to stages across downtown (and sometimes Old Strathcona) to share bold ideas on everything from climate and money to personal identity, colonization, and joy. What began in 2002 as a modest book fair evolved into a dynamic festival in 2006, now spanning multiple venues and featuring panels, readings, workshops, and performances that spark meaningful conversation. LitFest connects people and ideas year-round—scouting authors, amplifying voices, and catalyzing dialogue. Rooted in Treaty 6 territory, the festival honors diverse stories and champions cultural equity, making room for expression, inclusion, and storytelling that matters.
