In the studio at Vertigo Theatre, a renowned physician rescues Death from a winter storm and is granted the power to save the mortally ill, as long as he never defies Death’s orders. When someone he loves is about to die, he must choose between obedience and risking everything by confronting the lady of the underworld. Last Candle is created by Vertigo’s resident company 8ROJO and is based on the Brothers Grimm tale Godfather Death, blending striking imagery and silence to heighten tension and fear. This Second Stage production reflects Vertigo’s commitment to genre theatre that takes risks, thinks outside the box and offers Calgary audiences bold, unconventional storytelling.
