Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival

Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Festival transforms Edmonton’s Alberta Avenue into a magical winter arts celebration, bringing light, creativity and cultural connection to the heart of the season. Visitors wander through an illuminated forest filled with hand-crafted mythical creatures, colourful blooms, vibrant mushrooms and woodland animals. Spectacular works by internationally acclaimed ice, balloon and lantern artists create a glowing outdoor gallery alive with colour and imagination. The festival celebrates Ukrainian, French Canadian, Franco African, Indigenous (Métis, Inuit and Cree), Latin American and Asian cultures through immersive art, music, storytelling and food. Guests can snowshoe through Pipon Village, gather around a fire for bannock, tea and cultural teachings, then follow the lively sounds of a Ukrainian dance troupe to the Hearth Stage. Deep Freeze offers a uniquely Edmonton experience where winter comes alive through culture, community and wonder.
