Alberta's Iron Horse Trail

Alberta's Iron Horse Trail in Saint Paul offers a 176-km multi-use route where travellers can explore varied northern landscapes with easy, scenic access. Following an abandoned railway right-of-way dating back to about 1920, this trail links small communities and larger towns across north-eastern Alberta. Some former settlements now live on mainly in name, with the trail preserving the last visible traces of these places. Along the way, visitors pass sloughs, aspen stands, pine and spruce forests, rolling hills and lakes. Original culverts, bridges and trestles help users cross wetlands and waterways, making it simpler to enjoy the area’s natural scenery with minimal obstacles.
