Athabasca Falls
Athabasca Falls in the Canadian Rockies offers an easy-to-reach waterfall experience with powerful views just off the Icefields Parkway. Fed by the Athabasca River as it flows from its source at the Columbia Icefield, the water plunges 24 m (79 ft) with an impressive roar. Its sheer volume has carved potholes and a short canyon into the limestone basin, adding striking details to the dramatic scene. Several platforms and walkways provide places to safely view and photograph the falls. Free parking is available 30 km (19 mi) south of the Jasper townsite, and the waterfall is a short stroll from the lot. Visitors should remain behind the railings because mist can make the surrounding rock slippery.
