Ice Fishing Winter Outdoor Activities

Ice fishing is way more than sitting next to a hole in the ice and hoping. Today, the sport has modern perks like heated portable huts, GPS units and improved tactics for catching that trophy pike. You’re going to get, er, hooked. • Try it: Want more success out in the frosty Alberta wilderness? Choose a guided expedition and stay overnight in a heated ice shanty. It'll let you fish earlier and later – when the fish are most active. • Good to know: Lake and bull trout, walleye, northern pike, perch and arctic grayling all swim Alberta lakes in winter.

There is fuel, a pump out system, sail boat lifting mast and a fish cleaning station available for boaters. Fishing is allowed on the outside of the breakwater. Take an ice cream break after your jaunt along the lakeshore or stop for a bite to eat at any of the restaurants along the lakeshore.
