Winter Wonderland Attractions & Entertainment

Didn’t you know? Hot chocolate tastes better after a rosy-cheek winter walk. See the pink-orange Chinook sunrise light up the morning frost. You’ll get why this place is special. • Pure glee: Tobogganing is a beloved Canadian pastime. Find any snowy hill, and ride down on a small sled. Again and again. It’s tons of fun, and not just for the kidlets. • Picture it: Freeze that winter wonderland by taking a winter photography class. A pro can show you how to capture the northern lights and mid-winter lake mist.

Canada’s deadliest rockslide. 90 Seconds Changed Their Lives. “It took quite a bit of time for us to get it through our heads that everything and everybody beyond that point where the wall of rock began was dead…” What was it like to be in Frank when Turtle Mountain collapsed? Why did it happen? Will it happen again? Visitors can feel the impact of the Frank Slide story in a personal, interactive and creative setting, involving first-hand accounts by the people who lived through the destruction. On April 29th in 1903, 90 million tons of rock thundered from Turtle Mountain and buried part of a town. Immerse yourself in emotional survivor accounts. Stand on the edge of destruction and marvel at the awesome power of nature or take a walk through the massive boulders and imagine what it must have been like. Discover unforgettable stories told through prop talks, dramatic vignettes, high definition award-winning presentations, guided walks, powerful images, and one-on-one contact with historical guides. Get out into the spectacular Rocky Mountain landscape and discover the unexpected with a guided or self-guided walk on the Frank Slide Trail. Interact with knowledgeable staff one-on-one or as part of an interpretive experience inside or outside the Centre. Immerse yourself in special activities during events that celebrate the area’s unique history and culture. Enjoy two high definition, award-winning presentations in the Centre’s theatre. Take time to explore four exhibit galleries with heart-rending accounts by survivors of the slide, powerful images of the devastation, and touch screen displays to help you dig deep into the history. Look for items in the Frank Slide Gift Shop that are only found here.
