The Station Gift Shop is actually a replica of an early 1900’s, Standard No. 5 CPR train station. It may be strange to some to combine trains and horticulture, but gardens helped the railway settle western Canada. Aspen Crossing first opened the station as a retail garden centre in 2004. The gift store was added to the existing business in 2006. The garden centre stocks beautiful annuals, premium hanging baskets and containers. Aspen Crossing is well known for their Mother’s Day 2 for 1 hanging baskets over the years!
Local artists and volunteers introduced a paint by number approach to designing a variety of cultural, western-themed murals across the town on the sides of buildings, large signs and anywhere they could change something dull into a canvas for creative expression. The town's unique approach, which features original designs contributed by various artists within the Alberta community, allowed people of all ages and skill levels to participate. The result is a stunning and simultaneous display of colours and community - free for anyone to enjoy.
