Overview

Once an important hunting ground for the ancient Plains Cree, Dry Island Buffalo Jump, located 103 km (64 mi) southwest of Red Deer, is now famous for its dinosaur fossils and rich bonebeds of the Albertosaurus that were discovered here. Pitch a tent in one of the two unserviced campgrounds and hike the hills or paddle on the lazy river. Watch for more than 150 species of birds, including raptors and the many ducks and wading birds that forage along the shady banks of the Red Deer River.
