Marmot Basin is located in Jasper National Park, which is the most northerly park in the UNESCO Canadian Rockies World Heritage Site. The ski area has the highest base elevation of any major area in Canada. Over 400 cm of natural snow blanket the mountain annually allowing skiing from mid-November to early May. Explore a wide variety of runs, from novice to expert, on four mountain faces spanning 1,675 acres (678 hectares) of skiable terrain. Visitors to Jasper regularly get to see wildlife such as elk, deer, coyotes, Bighorn sheep and others throughout the winter
The Jasper Park Information Centre, built in 1913-14, is one of the earliest and finest examples of rustic design in the national parks. Designed by Edmonton architect A. M. Calderon, the Jasper Park Information Centre was intended to serve as a landmark and focal point for the town. Built in the rustic design tradition utilising locally quarried stone and timber, the building set a design example for subsequent construction within the town. This vision of a unified architectural theme within the park was novel when first expressed by S. Maynard Rogers, Jasper’s first park superintendent.
Mountain Galleries’ mission is to support and promote living Canadian artists. Founded in 1992 by artist/filmmaker Wendy Wacko, Mountain Galleries is one of the largest commercial galleries in Western Canada with locations in Banff, Jasper and Whistler. The collection represents major and mid-career artists. The diversity of the collection is part of the gallery’s success. Museum quality clay, glass, bronze and stone carvings are featured, as well as a very carefully curated Inuit collection. The gallery also houses original paintings in oil, acrylic and watercolor, as well as an interesting collection of private edition reproductions that are very reasonably priced.
