Grey Owl Meadery
It’s a true family affair at Grey Owl. Walter and Arleen Schwengler, along with their son Caleb work tirelessly on their 53 acre farm, located at the foot of the picturesque Southern Alberta Foothills. They are a family owned and operated meadery that began with a dream of producing world-class mead with a distinct, local flavour. Having operated a farm for many years, the couple decided to utilize the wonderful natural resources surrounding them. Through determination and dedication, the family received their cottage winery license in 2015.While Grey Owl produces locally inspired, traditional meads, they have developed several unique products. Their Bochet is made with a blend of caramelized and raw honey inspired by a french recipe from 1393. While their Medieval is made from beeswax an flavoured with medieval spices. Grey Owl is located on Hwy 22 (The historic Cowboy Trail) near Buck Lake at the edge of the foothills, with a great view of the Rocky Mountains. Visitors to the tasting room can enjoy a breath-taking view while savouring the unique meads and ciders. Contact them directly for hours and touring opportunities.
