I moved to Edmonton from Toronto in December — when the days were darkest and temperatures were plunging toward depths that Southern Ontarian nightmares are made of. Thrilled about the personal, and, later, professional wins that brought me west, my friends in the east couldn’t help wondering: How — HOW!? – would I deal with the cold? (Ironically, I’ve been boasting about our mild temperatures for almost two months straight.)
But still, E-town in winter is chilly (and dark!). So, after the holiday hubbub calmed down, I had a choice: I could hibernate, skulking from one underground parking lot to the next, sweating it out on stationary bikes and ellipticals. Or, I could live.
