In order to keep everyone safe and healthy during the outbreak of COVID-19, restrictions are in place in national and provincial parks in Alberta. Guidance is also available to help Albertans plan and safely enjoy outdoor activities this summer.

At this time, non-essential travel is not recommended in Alberta.

Here's what you need to know about getting outdoors.

NATIONAL PARK CLOSURES

All facilities in national parks and national historic sites are currently closed, and vehicle access is suspended. Highways and roadways that pass through national parks remain open.

More information about national parks closures is available here.

These are the national parks in Alberta:

Banff National Park

Jasper National Park

Waterton Lakes National Park

Elk Island National Park

Wood Buffalo National Park

PROVINCIAL PARKS RESTRICTIONS

Alberta Environment and Parks is taking an incremental approach to relaunching outdoor recreation by easing restrictions on access to outdoor pursuits Albertans love, including provincial parks, camping and public land.

Alberta Parks sites, including campgrounds and boat launches, are opening in stages in order to ensure appropriate staff resources and personal protective equipment is available to ensure sites are clean.

Vehicle access restrictions to provincial parks and public land parking lots and staging has been lifted. Facility closures in provincial parks remain in place at this time.

Users are reminded to pack out their garbage to avoid human-wildlife conflicts, to practice physical distancing and avoid gatherings.

More information about the status of provincial parks, camping reservations and backcountry access is available here.

A list of provincial parks and recreation areas is available here.
