Lethbridge Southern Alberta

There was a time when Alberta’s fourth largest city was a wild whiskey trading post. There’s still a bit of the Wild West to be discovered in Lethbridge and it’s celebrated in the annual Whoop Up Days festival. The Old Man River winds through the city, spanned by the longest and tallest active railway bridge in the world, an impressive feat of engineering for 1909. Dive into the cultural scene at museums, galleries and national historic sites. Learn how Indian Battle Park got its name. Stroll through one of the city’s many parks.

Fort Whoop-Up

Lethbridge, Alberta
TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:

Fort Whoop-Up tells the story of the buffalo robe trade, the years leading up to and the years that followed. We will be telling the story of this region, and the people here, from the mid-1860s to the early 1890s. It is a complex story that includes the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), other First Nations, Métis, Canadians, Americans, and British. It is a story of trade and politics, good people and notorious characters, and the flow of time. We look forward to seeing you at the Fort! The Fort Whoop-Up Interpretive Centre in Lethbridge will open for the summer season in May 2017.
