Owner and head distiller Rob Gugin started out in the brewing business. As he looked around, he discovered many fine breweries already do a great job. He could see a demand in craft distilling in Alberta and decided to turn his entrepreneurial passions toward spirits. The name, Old Prairie Sentinel, refers to a local grain elevator that was once slated for demolition. The story goes that a local farmer bought it for a dollar, gathered some friends to dismantle it piece by piece, then rebuild it on his own property. At Old Prairie, they stress the importance of working side by side with their friends and neighbours. Rob’s hand-crafted artisanal approach is reflected in the unique taste of his spirits. While his distilling methods are quite traditional, Rob is not afraid to innovate, bring new and exciting variations to the local spirits scene. Drop by their store and sample the various spirits made fresh on the premises.
