Overview

The Galt Historic Railway Park, established in 2005, collects, preserves, restores, and interprets artifacts representing the history and social impact of the “steam & coal” eras in southern Alberta, with emphasis on Galt Railway and the 1890 International Train Station Depot North West Territories from Coutts, AB / Sweetgrass, MT. The Train Station from 1890 to 1916 straddled the Canada – US border, making it one of the only existing example of this type of building left in Western Canada. At the Galt Historic Railway Park, costumed historic interpreters will give tours of this unique building and as well the inside of a restored railway baggage car that has been converted to a school car! Visitors can also explore the other railway cars adjacent to the Train Station, and as well check out the wooden caboose & stock car. On special event days, the Great Canadian Plains Railway Society (operators of the Railway Park) will be offering combined Train Station tours and rides on a restored railway motorcar on hand built railway track.
