Now that the ski season is upon us, Marmot Basin in Jasper National Park is calling your name.

Just 20 minutes from Jasper townsite, Marmot Basin has Canada’s highest base elevation at 1,698 m (5,570 ft). With seven lifts whisking you up 914 m (3,000 ft) to the top of the mountain and 86 runs down 1,677 acres of terrain, this is a guaranteed good time for everyone.

How difficult are the runs?

The runs at Marmot Basin are almost equally distributed, with 30% novice, 30% intermediate, 20% advanced and 20% expert runs. No matter the level, skiers and snowboarders are able to glide and ride through a variety of terrain to improve skills and increase experience.

Average conditions and hours?

With average annual snowfalls of fresh feather-light Alberta powder sitting around 4 m (160 in), Marmot is the definition of a skier’s paradise. The resort facilities are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, while the lifts run from 9-4..

Where can I buy passes?

Stop by the ticket office at the hill or plan ahead and check out the sales centre at 611 Patricia St. in Jasper. There are plenty of single and multi-day ski passes available for purchase, including the brand new Marmot Escape Card. Be sure to check for specials.

Parking at the hill is free, but if you feel like leaving the car at home base, take advantage of one of the shuttles to bring you from town straight to Marmot. There’s no need to trudge through the parking lot carrying all your gear

What are the dining options?

As you work up an appetite on the slopes, consider stopping at one (or all if you’re hungry) of the resort chalets. With mid-mountain dining like the Paradise and Eagle Chalets, there’s a variety of food and drink options to help keep you warm and fueled up for the day as you conquer the slopes. The Caribou Lounge can be found at the base of the ski area, and offers both a cafeteria and a dining lounge, making it the ideal location for some après-ski relaxation.

What about my kids?

Are your little ones a bit too young for skiing? You could bring your in-laws with you on vacation to babysit, or you could drop your little guys and gals at the Little Rascals Nursery. Licensed, certified staff are there to keep your little ones safe. With a guarantee of no more than six kids per staff member, they’ll be in great hands while you enjoy your mountainous adventures.

If your little tike is gearing up to love the mountains like mom and dad, try out the Tiny Tracks Ski Program. Check your children into the Little Rascals Nursery at the start of the day and Marmot will take care of the rest. This package includes (2) 50-minute ski (only) lessons, rental equipment, full day lift ticket, lunch and supervised nursery care. It's am is a perfect combination of childcare and on-hill instruction.

Equipment rentals?

Marmot Basin has a rental shop where you can rent all your ski and snowboard necessities. Forgot your snowsuit? All the supplies necessary for a comfortable day on the slopes are available for purchase at the hill.

So gear up and dive into another epic season at Marmot Basin.
